Reference

In the SIB database the term "Reference" is the document number or reference. Where appropriate, we have also added (in brackets) a common abbreviation or synonym.

Two or three examples best illustrate this :-
Reference Title
IETF RFC 1945 (HTTP) Hypertext Transfer Protocol - HTTP/1
Internet Standard 13 (DNS) Domain Name System
ISO/IEC 9594-1 Information technology - Open Systems Interconnection - The Directory-- Part 1: Overview of concepts, models and services

Description

There are two descriptive fields associated with each entry.

  • The "Short Description" is used on the results page of a search, and in the "Full SIB" summary listing.
  • The "Description" field is used in the single page report which gives all the details of an entry: this can be accessed from the search results or the Details link of entries in the "Full SIB" summary listing.
The search will look in both the "Short Description" and "Description" fields, if a value is requested for this field.

Product Standard

A Product Standard documents the requirements that a product must meet in order to be registered as conformant under the Open Brand Program. It consists of references to standards documents, together with a Conformance Statement Questionnaire, which identifies information which the product supplier must give to support the application for registration. It may also refer to mandatory Test Suites that need to be used. Product Standards are explained more fully in Practical Guide to the Open Brand. (Note that The Open Group uses the term 'Product Standard' in place of the previous terms 'Component' and 'Profile').
